nostaligia ,,,

Its part of 1 hour multi talented drama Firodiya I performed in my final year of engineering. Its end part of Play , where sand animation is used as tool to convey message of parallel drama. The protagonist lose them selfs trying to be part of colorful glossy picture of world.Mostly relating with students and their aspirations in wrong directions was portreyed in drama using metaphore of chamilions and changing colors wrt surroundings. And finally how they cought up in their own wishes circle ...was climax.
Me and my junier performed sand art on live music. Its one of my finest piece of art till now. we have been offered to design for small movie title by judge 'Mahesh Manjrekar'.

some better work I did 3 years back ...

Return to innocence ,,,

Open Elective :
Day started with all the politics of numbers of available and allotted seats for courses ...
We had 3 courses available as open electives.
1. Play with clay
2. Identity, aesthetics and culture of making
3. Interactive multimedia

So the first day of my course started with cursing myself for reaching late to reserve seat.
I chose(?) 'Play with clay' , I was late to reach campus (as usual ). Early morning on 1 st jan(Y?) ...

The guy called 'Reghu' was our faculty, who looked very ordinary and talking very less.
We had to go 15 days at farm house and I had to go through foolish idea's 'being with yourself' stuff.
But I am happy to say ,,, that was my stupid prediction.
Raghu, indeed very enlightened artist... who sculpted 50,000 murals till now and 25 solo exhibitions.Who denied fellowship from US and works in small village for inspiration.
Very honest to his profession. Reghu do not preach any unnecessary philosophy. But his work speaks on behalf.Very nice quote i read in his folio>

"There's lot of theory. But you cant have a long story for blank canvas. You need to take a brush and paint"
Talking about clay, its such miraculous tool. You think about something and you can see its taking tangible form within minutes. You need to finish it before getting dry, which makes it spontaneous expression of art.

few more snaps here ...

Whole journey was kinda of return to childhood... return to innocence. This I could go closest to myself... { specially after working two years in some stupid IT firm ,,, n about to loose expression of myself }
overall ... Lot of fun ...with some creative satisfaction....

Many of us were already fascinated by Jinan who came for first elective.
And it was an eye opening experience as suspected.
One of my batchmate Radhika P says,
"It made me look into the depths of myself, and see the same ‘child’ that exists in me as it has always, only surroundings and habits have changed the totality. Changing habits was a part of the whole exercise...this was not easy to start with, but the moment I came to the realization that there was nothing impossible, the whole picture took a different turn...I tried writing with my left hand, tried doing things I often did in a very different manner....although at first it was a planned act of how to do it, when to do it, and in which way to do it, later it became far more spontaneous... when I felt like it I would try and write a paragraph with my left hand...not that the paragraph was meaningful, but the act of trying and exploring something new with my very own senses was indeed a great learning!"

an interesting article 'Dont follow the herd mentality' written by Justin G, published in Times of India after the course.

Gulal

Movie is based on Rajasthani youth and politics ...
amazing screen play ,,,excellent music, Excellent photogenic frames captured from jaipur ,,,I can say introduction to nice graphic in Indian cinema.

Few words needed Rajasthani background to understand ( i could understand because i went with my friend from Jodhpur ). Story talks about politics , love , betrayal , physical relation and hunger of legitimacy...

All in all ... good movie. I would rate 3 and half star out of five.

multi sensory

Recently happened to attend a workshop by a well known faculty from NID ,
MBBS graduate and MBA from IIM , was teaching us design in multi-sensory fashion.

Discussions started by observing things from different perspective with much deeper sense (physically).According to him , there are 55 senses in body apart from 5 known senses.
the way he made us to sense was also interesting ...
eg: texture of pain - sharp ( through eyes )
Sound of temperature - shivering ( in movies )
sense of breeze (by sound , not by touch sense ) etc ,,,

some serious fun we could be part of was - 'Hypnotism' .I could see its happening in front of my eyes .Nothing was magic. Everything was science. He made my friend to increase his hearing sense so high , that he could listen sound of typing buttons of mobile phone in other room.

The way he made us understand positive and negative vibes was awesome, ( i cant even explain , these need to be experienced). The existence of intuitions would not be so perfectly proved by anybody else than a doctor.

Some cool experiments were conducted to make our conditioned mind set free, to remove body consciousness and increase our boundaries of creativity. One of them was going in dense forest to take out fear factor. For which we been taken to deep forest in Kerla . We had to trek in night till top.We already met with an elephants and deers in journey. And weird sounds of insects in night were creating perfect ambiance.and then we had to walk half a km alone and w/o torch( area is famous for leopards )
awesome stuff huh !

n later in nights, interesting part used to come in picture ,,,
discussion on various topics ... love , sex , body consciousness , spirits ...
different questions we faced , problems , experiences we had .
And those would go till night 3-4 leaving much questions in our head.
few left unanswered ...
few were unconvinced ,,

Love and sex , life and death , fate and chance ....
In my opinion those are questions of life time ... which are open ended !
Difficult to have rational thinking about it and come to any conclusion.

Good thing is ,our minds are ignited for more questions ,,,,which would have taken too much time if not now .

Design philosophy ...

ppl said Ranjan's class ll be life changing experience ... 'dharti phat jayegi , asman gir jayega' etc etc..l dont know how much it changed me ...u read n let me know ..

To do good design ..one must be clear with its philosophy...
imp lessons i learned :
1. Internet is not everything... which made me to go out and start observing things from my perspective ... { ethnography }
2. To design chair .. u need to know how big his butt is ! ...emphasis on user research...
3.everything we do have impact on surrounding...

Some of rich conversations happened in course
designers journey about 'strange making to sense making'...
being born as arrogant ...coming out of box of ego...

everyone was trying hard to understand wat n y design is ?
experience ... usability ... creativity... intelligence ?
its still vague as it was...

The final exercise termed 'me board' was one the most difficult for few of us.

because this requires a high degree of honesty, akin to 'searching for the truth',
and then representing it in some 'form' - better if its hand drawn { typical NID! }...

to sum up ...lets make some sense out of life guys ...

Delhi 6 .... Big disappointment

Being a designer I would have taken all the efforts talking beauty of the movie, because I have great empathy towards people making things artistic and different.

But I am writing this with deep pain and frustration after watching ‘delhi 6’.

Patchy and irrelavant second half really takes away all the credit of technicians.

The cinematography in first half is visual treat to eyes. And as expected rehman’s music is awesome.Screenplay fails to use both. Songs are abruptly cut.

'Kala bandar' is still dancing in my head.(its freaking pathetic ).

Abhishek have some scene in heaven with his dad( Amitabh of course). It’s like he appears there by missed call or something. That’s when audience loses patience and start laughing.

Fortunately the great actors like Rishi Kapoor and Atul Kulkarni are pleasant to watch.New comer Aditi Rao Hydari makes her mark in role of Ruma Bua.

Remaining is a pure waste of talent.
